Last January I gave myself a goal of finally getting caught up on all my personal pictures. And I failed miserably. No contest, I didn’t even come close…in fact I fell further behind. Honestly what happened was illness…months and months of illness. We got EVERY cold, flu, virus going around. People at the kid’s school pretty much believed us to be the source of all the illnesses plaguing the school (based on the fact that we did indeed have every one of them)! I was actively sick for almost 8 weeks straight and thus every night when the kids were tucked in bed instead of doing something productive (like getting caught up on my pictures) I also tucked myself into bed with an assortment of medicines, tea, heating pads, and Netflix. And that was pretty much our winter into spring.
So, here I am one January later with basically the same goal. Except, as I discovered today, that I’m actually now an ENTIRE YEAR behind…I never even posted pictures from last winter. Of course this doesn’t really affect any of you but my goal, my forever plan was to keep these blogs and pictures and eventually have them all printed into books for my kids. Not to mention that when I get so behind with pictures I tend to stop taking more because I feel so overwhelmed. Or as you see here I just default to taking pictures with my crummy cell phone camera. So…this winter I will do it. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!! I will get caught up on all my pictures, I will start taking more pictures with my actual camera, and then I will upgrade that awful camera phone and get these photo/blog books printed out.
So…join me in this horrible cell phone photo recap of last winter. While the pictures might be bad, and most of the time was spent sick, this is also a good reminder that it wasn’t all bad. And memories are memories no mater how imperfect they are!
We had a great time turning our pool into a little skating rink…the kids loved sliding and playing around with the hockey sticks!
Winter days call for major for building and this was one of their largest creations!
Skating at the little pond down our road!
Random childhood…our little guy likes to eat butter and this is what we find sometimes on the counter!
Because Joe was so busy with paramedic school we didn’t get out at much, but here was our one snowshoe adventure for the winter and it was beautiful!
New Years Eve…1st time staying up until midnight!
The post Christmas season always inspires some organization and cleaning!
Hot tubbing in a snowstorm is one of the most magical things!
The day after Christmas Liam fell off the side of our basement stairs and broke both bones in his forearm! Joe was working so Liam got a ride to the hospital in the ambulance with daddy! A bit of a traumatic experience but really it only slowed him down for a day and then he was back to his regular self!
I think that I love the inside of our home most during the holiday season!
Enjoy a winter walk with my babies!
This was a bit earlier in December but it still shows you what a mild winter we had last year (can’t say the same for this winter)!
Random Liam snuggles
This is what you do when you have water babies and it’s cold outside!
Winter sleepovers with friends!
The dining room was one of my projects for the winter and here it is right in the middle as the wood stove was being installed. It’s good to look at these pictures because it shows me that we are making progress in our house even if it’s slow!
The perfect little spot for a nap!
It wouldn’t be true to life if we didn’t share some of what most of our winter days were like…this day involved being covered in yogurt and a wicked runny nose!
Sadie and our bunny, Hope, enjoying a little run around the house!
Yes, sometimes I hold our full grown dog like a baby!
Oh, yes…this was quite the weekend! It was January and the temps were below zero. Joe was gone for the weekend on a leadership retreat with our students in the middle of nowhere without any cell phone reception. Our furnace died and they were asking an insane amount of money to fix it on the weekend AND I was sick as a dog. So my dear friend Laura took Lily and Eli for the day and night and Liam and I pretty much hibernated upstairs (where the heat pumps could keep the temperature someone reasonable) and watched cartoons all day long!
After many days being sick we were both so excited to be up and playing something…Liam loves his marble runs!
We didn’t make it to all of Spirit Week at school because of illness (you get the drill at this point) but we did make a few days. Above was favorite character day right below was sports day and right below that was different era day!
They were all sick and missed Pajama Day at school so we stayed in our new pajamas and played games at home instead!
My winter reading!
One of the best parts of last winter was the kids getting to take ski lessons for the first time! Lily and Eli both loved it and did great! These pictures are from the day that Joe and I joined them on the slopes!
Dressing as an old man for the 100th day of school!
I can’t even tell you how excited I was to finally get our wood stove up and running!
Except that we didn’t buy wood for the winter (because we didn’t know we would be able to put in the wood stove so soon)! Thankfully on one of those really cold days when our furnace was out again three of my sweet girlfriends brought over wood for our family!
Ice fishing adventure on our lake…the one just down our road!
More sick days snuggling in bed!
While he’s not much of a book reader (too much sitting still) Liam is fascinated by turning the pages of the Bible (Lord God may this always be so)!
Sick days on the couch watching cartoons!
And more snow storm hot tub!
So much illness…
When mama is sick for weeks some days there is ice cream for dinner and we don’t get out of our pajamas!
This is right after we got our new to us minivan…we named her Fancy because she is by far the fanciest vehicle we have ever owned (thank you accident insurance money)!
When doughnuts are your favorite food group!
Down in Southern Maine doing Paint-Your-Own Pottery with our Cousins!
The adorable robot valentines we made for Eli’s class. We made really cute one with Tic Tacs for Lily’s class but I forgot to get a picture!
A few more from our one snowshoeing adventure!
And a few with my good camera from ice fishing (I believe that Joe was trying to warm up his cheeks here)!
So cold that we had to do a little fishing from inside the ice shanty!
Liam’s first ice fishing trip!
A bit out of order…but this was the car accident that led to the new van! It doesn’t look like much here, but in reality I slid across the opposite lane of traffic (thankfully there weren’t any cars at the time) and crossed over this large pile of snow which stopped me within the smallest fraction of hitting these trees! The wheels on the other side were buried in the snow and the underneath of the van was toast (from the snow and tree stump we went over)! I’m tearing up actually thinking again of how God protected us during that accident. My back might never be exactly the same but it’s not too bad and none of the children were hurt. The following weekend a young man in our area was in a similar accident and killed and to this day it humbles me.
A few more ice fishing…the fish won this day!
Valentines Day celebrating what would have been our Joy’s birthday!
And that was pretty much our winter…illness, accidents, and a few great family days mixed in!
